The most famous landmark is Trongsa Dzong, a large and impressive fortress-monastery built on a steep mountainside. The dzong played an important role in controlling the ancient trade route and is closely connected with Bhutan’s monarchy. The first and second kings of Bhutan served as Trongsa Penlops before becoming kings. The district is also known for its forests, mountains, valleys, and diverse wildlife. Agriculture and livestock farming are important sources of income for local communities, while tourism contributes to the local economy. With its historic sites, traditional villages, natural beauty, and royal heritage, Trongsa remains an important cultural and historical district of Bhutan.
